Everywhere you surf on the internet in search of moneymaking opportunities, you are sure to come across some of the countless work from home scams that exist. Many of them sound too good to be true. Well, that is because most of them are.

Some of the scams pose themselves as “jobs,” whereas others brand themselves as “moneymaking opportunities.” These “jobs” do not offer anything in the way of benefits or wages. Most often, a fee or payment is required up front before you are even provided with details of any kind.

One of the biggest bait lines for work at home scams is the catch phrase about how you can “earn thousands per day and do nothing.” There are very few jobs available, if any, that make you rich for doing nothing.

There are some legitimate home based entrepreneurs who honestly do make a comfortable income in their ventures. These truly successful business owners will tell you right up front that they worked hard to get where they are. They are quick to tell you there are no “free rides.” Everything has a cost, be it money, time, or labor.

A very serious problem with work at home scheme advertising is the targeting of Spanish speaking Americans in home based business opportunity ads. The ads are considered deceptive and misleading; most of them do not even mention anything about the fees that are required in the ads, either.

One such scheme recently exposed involved an ad for an envelope stuffing opportunity. The ad stated that interested parties could earn $17.50 for every envelope stuffed. The consumers were instructed to call a toll free number or visit a specific website address. Once they did, they were required to pay a registration fee, and afterwards they never heard from the company again.

In some cases, when the consumers were able to contact the company again, they were told the only way to earn the money advertised was to participate in a “pyramid scheme” by marketing the same fraudulent envelope stuffing scheme themselves.

With the new FTC (Federal Trade Commission) guidelines concerning fake testimonials and “typical result” claims, some people searching for home based business opportunities say they feel safer.

Remember the saying concerning the NRA: “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” The same holds true for working from home scams. Legitimate businesses will abide by the law and provide honest information; fraudulent companies could care less about the guidelines and will continue to do business as always.

Basically, that means legitimate businesses are willing to be held accountable. Fraudulent scammers, on the other hand, will say or do just about anything to get their hands on your money. Then they will close up shop, open up under another name, and start all over again.

Do any legitimate work at home business opportunities exist? Sure they do. Be cautious, use common sense, do the right research up front, and evaluate legitimate opportunities that are right for you.

You can find a lot of information on forums and blogs about many work from home companies, good AND bad. There are also websites that evaluate and recommend companies based on their own research experience, such as the Best Work from Home Opportunities.

Legitimate work from home jobs are a myth in some instances, but if you go about your search for work in an intelligent and informed way, you’ll find there are some sound, proven, and legal home based business opportunities out there. Arm yourself with the right information to get your business launched correctly and on its way to true success.
