stay at home moms: did your spirituality have an effect in your decision to stay home with your kids?

This is not a question to bash working moms, thanks… My spirituality definately played a part. My mom was mentally ill and worked full time when she wasn’t screwing up. When she was home she was crazy and unnnurturing often because of the stress she experienced. I wanted my daughters lives to be different. I knew that I was easily stressed and I wanted my daughters to experience me being as fully present and nurturing to them as possible. Financially we are able to manage me not working – we are fortunate. I plan to stay home until they are in school and then re evaluate. My hope is that I have broken the cycle of neglect and abuse and have created good karma in doing so. What are your experiences?

My beliefs played a part in my decision to stay home with my children. But honestly, I saw what many of my friends were going through while working and being a mother and I didn’t want that. My best friend and I used to work together. I will never forget when she got the phone call from her mother about her daughter taking her first steps. She missed it and cried all day. She started working part time after that.

I didn’t want to miss out on my children. I didn’t want someone else raising them. I didn’t want them coming home to an empty house. I wanted to be there for them and I still do. I’m very thankful that my husband’s salary allows me to stay home, but we did have to make sacrifices. It was worth it.
