Why my previous employer lie to Service Canada to prevent me to get EI?
My previous employer reduced my salary, so I planed to quit. However, at the time I was going to quit my job, my previous employer asked me to stay and offered me working at home. Even with lower salary, working at home is good thing. I accepted. However, after 3 weeks, they told me that they can’t provide me working at home any more. They give me two options either come back to work or quit. I was very angry, so I quit. Now I am applying EI(employment Insurance). One day EI agent told me that my employer said “they offered me working at home, I agreed with lower payment. But 3 weeks later, I changed my mind, and quit.”
Service Canada “if you voluntarily quit your job without just cause, you will not be paid regular benefits.” One “just cause” is employer reduce your salary.
The EI agent may have misunderstood what happened, but it doesn’t matter. You quit, which makes you ineligible for EI. They are pretty strict about that rule.
Just so you understand, there is absolutely NO benefit to the company that you not receive EI. It costs them no more or less because you collect or don’t collect. There is no rational reason to ‘lie’ to deny you EI.
